Tadpole (6 mos. - 3 yrs. with mom)
This introductory swim class allows children to become accustomed to the water. With the help of the staff and their parent, children learn preliminary swimming skills. Instruction includes: water orientation, blowing on face, going under, grasping wall, floating on back, locomotive skills (kicking, gliding, etc.), rhythmic breathing, use of kickboard, crawl stroke (arms), sit-dive and jumping in.
Frog (3 - 4 yrs.; Beginner)
This program is a structured class that reinforces the basic skills learned in prior levels. As locomotive skills improve, instructors introduce more advanced skills. Class includes: bobbing, steamboat, underwater swim, treading water, turning over, and a review of the previously learned skills.
Minnow (4 yrs. & up; Beginner)
These classes are designed to gradually build up the child's basic swimming ability. Children are introduced to progressively harder skill levels as they improve. Instruction includes: crawl stroke, breaststroke (arms), treading water (changing direction), underwater swim (retrieve object from bottom of pool), jumping in (swim to side), and a review of previously learned skills.
Eel (4 yrs. & up;
Prerequisite: Underwater Swim)
Classes are designed to build upon the skills that the child has already developed. Children continue to advance to progressively harder skill levels as they improve. Instruction includes: crawl stroke, breaststroke (arms), treading water (changing direction), underwater swim (retrieve object from bottom of pool), jumping in (swim to side), and a review of previously learned skills.
Fish (4 yrs. & up;
Prerequisite: Crawl Stroke Test)
A more advanced class, children should be able to do the front crawl. Class is structured to introduce more advanced swim strokes: front crawl (with breathing), breaststroke, scissors kick, and sidestroke (arms). We also review the basics and emphasize safety.
